The Bercovich BASEBALL foundation was started in 1927
by Sam Bercovich for disenfranchised
African American and Jewish players in Oakland, CA.
These players of the highest caliber
were givin a chance to play at a very high level.
Whithout the Bercovich foundation
they wouldn't have had a chance
to play and prove their skill.
Many of them became professional
baseball players.
Sam Bercovich passed away a few years ago,
God bless Sam!
Fast forward to 2016:
Matteo's manager Michael Iglesias
played for Sam Bercovich for many years.
After Michael finished his professional baseball
career he started a baseball program
of his own called Headfirst Baseball Academy located in Pleasanton CA.
Sam's family awarded Michael
the rights to use the foundation
and the Bercovich name lives
on for many years to come.
